生徒さんの中には、文法の話をするよりも、実際の生活会話に慣れたいという人も多くいます。
生徒さんが初心者の場合は、文法をきちんと教えてあげる必要がありますが、市販の教科書通りに進めればほぼうまくいくようです。
教え方については、生徒さんと会って話してみるのがよいでしょう。

Most students are more interested in picking up real conversational skills in your language than they are in talking about grammar. For beginners, though, you will need to teach them basic grammar, and you can do this by following along with a textbook. It's best to discuss with the student what kind of lesson will be provided.

Most students choose a book that they want to work from. You should talk to each student about their language ability and weak points. Be careful when using commercially available textbooks, however, as some will contain phrases that may seem strange to a native speaker like you. Make sure to point these things out to students.

レッスンの時間はできるだけ「毎週 日曜日の 午後３時から」などと決めた方がよいのですが、それも生徒さんの都合次第です。まずは生徒さんとお互い無理のない時間を話し合ってみて、それからアルバイトの時間を調整してみてはいかがでしょう。

It's usually best to decide on a fixed date and time every week for a lesson (for example, Sunday afternoons at 3:00). The time will depend on the student. You should first talk with a student to set a schedule that is suitable for both of you. If you have a part-time job, you can then work out your schedule there afterward.

自宅でやっている先生もいますし、喫茶店やファミリーレストランでレッスンをやっているのもよく見かけますね。生徒さんと相談して、あまりうるさい場所や、話しづらい場所は避けましょう。なお、最初の面談は、先生や生徒さんの自宅ではなく、喫茶店などにすることをおすすめします。

Some teachers provide lessons at their home, but you will often see teachers giving lessons in coffee shops or family restaurants. Discuss the location for lessons with your student, and try to avoid places that are loud or not conducive to conversation. And when you meet a student for the first time, it's best to do so in a public place like a coffee shop and not at your home or the student's home.

生徒さんの希望する時間、場所は様々です。まずは生徒さんから信頼してもらえるような情報を登録しましょう。生徒さんは、その中から何人かの先生と面談して決めることになります。先生には費用はかかりませんので、気軽に登録して生徒さんの連絡を待ちましょう。

Different students want lessons at different times and in different locations. First, register your information in a way that will win the student's trust. Students will sometimes want to meet personally with several teachers before they decide on one. This process does not cost the teacher anything, so go ahead and register and wait to be contacted by students.

新しく登録／更新した人ほど先に表示するしくみになっていますので、こまめに自分の情報を更新するとよいでしょう。顔写真の登録も効果的です。また、自分の情報は英語でも日本語でもよいので、正確な言葉で書きましょう。なお、嘘の情報を登録して生徒さんから苦情があった場合、厳しい措置をとりますので、正直な登録をお願いします。

Teachers who have just registered or updated their profile are listed first, so make sure to update your information regularly. Putting up a headshot photo of yourself is also effective. You can create your profile in either English or Japanese, but be precise in whichever language you use. Please note that if we get a complaint from a student that a teacher has posted false information, we will have to deal with that situation seriously, so make sure not to misrepresent yourself.
